Appledore village, North Devon

16 miles away, EX39 1QS (Click for directions)
Appledore village is a small fishing village in North Devon where the Taw and Torridge rivers meet. Considered a hidden gem, this friendly town of just over 2,000 inhabitants sits on the Torridge Estuary looking across the river to Instow. The River Torridge runs down from Bideford and joins the broader River Taw which originates on Dartmoor and passes through Barnstaple before the two rivers merge here. Local novelist, Charles Kingsley, described Appledore as a “little white fishing village” and so it remains even today. Quaint fishermen’s cottages of all sizes line the quay and are popular with artists and holiday makers as well as local families who have lived here for generations. From April to November there is a ferry (high tide) taking you across to Instow. We quite often go to Appledore for an afternoon visit……………….here is one trip.

Market Street Kitchen

Running parallel to the main street in a lovely little side street is this cosy little cafe. Great, fresh food in a nice setting. We stopped in for some lunch during a visit to Appledore…………..have a look here.   Back...
