North Devon Hawk Walk

26th August 2019
Last year we visited the stand of Nigel from North Devon Hawk Walk at a local show. When someone is standing around holding a Harris Hawk you just have to go and have a look. Michele got to hold the hawk and, she was pretty excited.
Luckily for us we had a visit from our eldest son and his fiancé this week so thought it the perfect opportunity to give the hawk walk a try. There are a few different options available for the lenght of walk, we chose an hour. The walk is held in Exmoor which is about an hours drive from Moorparks. The drive itself is pretty special, Exmoor has some wonderful scenery.

A short drive away from our meeting place is a private field where we got to see the birds close up. Nigel is very knowledgeable and obviously loves his birds, we went into a lot of details of their feeding, health and the way they hunt. We were able to stroke the Barn owl, which was great as we have only just recently attracted a barn owl ( Our first one in the box) into the owl box I made. But we didn’t just get to look at the Harris Hawk, we got to fly her too. We also got to watch Nigel run after her when she spotted something tasty for lunch! Everyone had a great time learning about these lovely birds, the surrounding countryside was fabulous. We would definitely recommend this. The journey there, the countryside and the experience was great. You’ll need to book in advance, this is very popular.
